The Seabury Family

I first began the adoption process about 2 years ago. As an aging (late 40’s) single Mom-to-be, I soon found out that my choices were limited as to what country I’d be able to adopt from. My social worker from Catholic Family Services in Connecticut (Nerina – she’s wonderful!) told me about Happy Families and the Kazakhstan program.

So I made my decision and the process began. With the help of Sandy Destrampe, Nerina, and Elena and Helen all the paperwork became complete. Unfortunately the events of September 11 stalled everything, but I was reassured by everyone that traveling to Kazakhstan was safe. And they were right. After we arrived in Almaty everything was prepared for us and we really worried about nothing except visiting Kamila at the orphanage. I was quite impressed by the condition (cleanliness) of the orphanage and how healthy and well cared the children appeared to be. Tatyana, Don and the staff made sure that everything was in order and even managed to show us a lot of the country. Court was expedited and before we knew it we were on our way to Moscow with the most beautiful little girl now with us. In Moscow, Ludmila and Natasha made sure we were comfortable and within 48 hours we were on our way home.

Now Kamila (now known as Katie) is spending her days learning everything she can. She has adjusted extremely well, is wealthy, happy, and curious about everything.

I can’t thank Happy Families enough for all of their help and support and making this one very happy family.
